Mandatory professionalism module
About the module
All CIA members (see Exemptions below) are required to complete the mandatory Professionalism Module every two years, by February 28, in addition to other continuing professional development (CPD) requirements, as outlined in the Qualification Standard – Requirements for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). If you did not complete the module in 2023, you will need to do so before you will be able to file your 2023-2024 CPD compliance statement.
The module, which is hosted on the CIA’s e-learning platform, includes the following required components:
- An introductory course.
- Professionalism case studies – of which you must choose two to complete.
- Required readings, as defined by the CIA. A link to the readings is provided in the introductory course.
- A final attestation confirming that you have completed all aspects of the module.
- A certificate of completion, which will be generated after you complete the attestation.
Exemptions
If you are exempt from CPD for special circumstances (e.g., disability or family leaves longer than a year), you are not required to complete the module.
If you became a CIA member within the past two years, you may choose to file that you are a new member and therefore not yet required to be CPD compliant. In this case, you are not required to complete the module.
Other circumstances
If you wrote an exam in the past two years and wish to file your CPD compliance statement under that category, you must complete this module before you file, in order to be compliant.
If you are a non-member of the CIA who does Canadian work and therefore needs to comply with the CIA’s CPD requirements, please contact [email protected].
2024 module launch
The 2024 module will be available in September. Once it is available, if you cannot access the platform, please contact us at [email protected] to ensure that you have sufficient time to complete the module prior to the deadline.
