Rules of Professional Conduct and why they are important
The stakes are often high for actuaries and the decision-making they inform. All CIA members must comply with the CIA Rules of Professional Conduct. This serves the public interest and helps build trust with clients, employers, other stakeholders – and all Canadians.

A strong foundation for trust
The Rules of Professional Conduct are designed to promote ethical behaviour and support high standards of work. They demonstrate the commitment CIA members have to professionalism, accountability, protecting the public interest and upholding the reputation of the actuarial profession. They also evolve over time to reflect societal change.
An expectation of compliance
CIA members are expected to actively comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct at all times. In practice, that means they must understand the Rules, keep up to date with changes, apply them consistently, and take appropriate action when ethical standards are put at risk.
