Transition rules
Effective: November 24, 2022
As the CIA qualification pathways are fully implemented between 2022 and 2025, certain transition provisions have been approved by the CIA’s Education and Qualification Council (EQC) to help candidates bridge the previous qualification requirements with the new ones.
We will continue to monitor, evaluate and adjust as needed to ensure that candidates have appropriate opportunities to complete their ACIA and FCIA designations with as few disruptions as possible.

| ATR23‑5 | December 31, 2023 | Deadline for successful completion of a recognized actuarial degree (completed between June 30, 2015, and October 31, 2023) and UAP credits (obtained by October 31, 2023) and/or SOA exams P, FM, IFM, LTAM, STAM and SRM, or CAS exams 1, 2, 3F, MAS-I and MAS-II (successfully completed by December 31, 2023) for exemption from ACIA Capstone Exam. |

| FTR24‑3 | November 15, 2024 | Deadline for FCIA applications with PEC credit using the US CAS COP and the CIA Professionalism Workshop, both completed before December 31, 2019. |
| FTR24‑4 | November 16, 2024 | In effect: One CIA Fellowship exam required for Pathway 3B candidates from the SOA or CAS who took US-specific Fellowship examinations in life, retirement, group benefits and property and casualty. |

| FTR25‑2 | December 31, 2025 | Deadline to successfully complete all FCIA requirements using piecemeal credits for SOA and CAS Fellow-level educational activities and examinations for Pathways 1 and 2. |
| FTR25‑3 | December 31, 2025 | Deadline to successfully complete one CIA Fellowship exam to have piecemeal SOA or CAS Fellow-level educational activities recognized beyond FTR25-2 for the purposes of Pathways 1 and 2.
It is important to note that only SOA and CAS Fellow level activities successfully completed prior to passing one FCIA exam will be eligible for credit. |
