A Year of Advancing Excellence: 2024-25 Annual Report Highlights

From honouring our history to forging new paths in education and community engagement, this was a landmark year for the Institute. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary, let’s reflect on a year marked by bold progress, transformative milestones and a renewed commitment to serving the public interest.

Key highlights include:

Sixty years of actuarial leadership

In 2025, the CIA proudly celebrated six decades of advancing actuarial practice and serving the public interest in Canada. To commemorate this milestone, a range of special initiatives, including events, advertising and podcasts, paid tribute to our profession’s historical impact and bright future.

A new era in CIA education

This past year marked a transformative moment in the CIA’s journey, with the full launch of the Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries education system and most of the Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries system products. For the first time, participants can now qualify as an ACIA and FCIA entirely through CIA programming.

Bringing actuaries together at our 2024 annual conference

The 2024 CIA Annual Conference, in Quebec City, was one of our most dynamic gatherings to date. With over 700 in-person attendees and a packed program of more than 50 sessions, the event offered a space for bold ideas, expert insights and meaningful connections.

Growing and engaging our membership

Between 2024 and 2025, the Institute welcomed 752 new members into our growing community. The introduction of student and candidate membership categories helped open doors to the profession, making it easier than ever to engage with the CIA from the outset of an actuarial journey.

Enhancing volunteer engagement

Our community thrives because of the commitment and leadership of our volunteers. This year we set a new record, with 870 active volunteers demonstrating a remarkable level of engagement across all practice areas.

“As we mark 60 years of actuarial excellence, we reflect on the critical role the CIA plays in shaping a profession that is uniquely Canadian – strong, independent and aligned with the needs of our country. Over the past year, we have continued to advance that mission through bold steps: launching a fully Canadian education system, expanding the data management capacity of our research program, and creating new opportunities for members to learn, connect and lead. Together, we are building a resilient, forward-looking actuarial community – one that not only meets today’s challenges but continues to lead with purpose for generations to come.”

– Conrad Ferguson, FCIA, CIA President 2024-2025
