Position statement

Thank you for considering my candidacy for the CIA Board as a Director.

In service of the CIA and its members, I would love to apply my 30 years of actuarial experience focused on life insurance and risk management. I have worked both in Canada and the United States, and have international experience via my corporate roles with multinational organizations.

My volunteer experience is an extremely rewarding aspect of my career. I have served on committees, volunteer boards, community associations and professional organizations. Since obtaining my Fellowship in 2002, I have years of volunteer experience with the CIA and the Society of Actuaries.

I would like to continue contributing to the actuarial profession, CIA members and the Board as a Director. In this role, I would focus on three key areas.

1. Engagement within our profession

The new qualification pathways provide multiple avenues for actuaries to become CIA members. I support the CIA’s efforts to welcome aspiring actuaries by increasing awareness and partnering with educational institutions across Canada. We can continue to address barriers to entry for our profession while maintaining high standards for educational requirements and ongoing professional development.

2. Strategic expansion of the actuarial profession

Our profession continually grows and adapts with emerging fields, making our profession dynamic and impactful. I support the CIA in identifying specific areas where actuaries can expand our professional reach and contributions. This includes conducting foundational work within Canada for unique opportunities at home and leveraging progress of international organizations where beneficial.

3. Research and public outreach

The public recognizes actuaries as well-established experts in assessing and managing financial risks. I support the CIA’s efforts to increase awareness of what actuaries do, who we are as a professional body, and how we help the public.
