Position statement

The actuarial profession is at an inflection point. Artificial intelligence represents both a threat to traditional ways of working and a powerful opportunity to expand our impact. I am an extensive user of AI in my professional and personal life, and I have seen how it can elevate judgment, accelerate insight and allow actuaries to focus on the problems that truly matter. As a CIA Board member, I would help the Institute lead this transition responsibly – supporting innovation while upholding professionalism, transparency and public trust – while actively helping younger members build the skills and confidence to thrive in an AI-enabled world.

I am also deeply committed to the CIA’s role in advancing public well-being. As co-chair of the Single Topic Task Force on Wellness and Preventive Health Care, I see firsthand the enormous economic and social cost of preventable poor health in Canada. Actuaries are uniquely positioned to contribute through long-term, transparent cost-benefit analysis that can inform smarter public policy and better allocation of resources toward prevention.

Whether navigating AI, shaping public policy or strengthening member engagement, my focus is the same: helping the CIA contribute meaningfully to Canada’s future while ensuring the profession remains relevant, trusted and impactful.
