New CIA leaders for a changing profession

We are pleased to announce the election of five new members to the CIA Board, effective July 1, 2025:

President-Elect

Daniel Pellerin, FCIA(1983)

Daniel PellerinDaniel Pellerin has been elected as the CIA’s next President-Elect. With a distinguished career as a CFO and an Appointed Actuary, Daniel brings decades of leadership, international collaboration and technical excellence to the role. A dedicated volunteer, he has served extensively on CIA councils, boards and task forces, and was awarded the CIA Award of Excellence for his contributions.

As President-Elect, Daniel aims to enhance the CIA’s national and global visibility, ensuring the actuarial profession remains a key player in risk management and public policy. He is passionate about strengthening the Institute’s education system, supporting the use of emerging tools and technologies, and recognizing the value of Canada’s university programs.

A strong communicator and strategic thinker, Daniel is well positioned to lead the profession forward in a time of rapid societal and technical change.

Elected for a three-year term, each new Director brings valuable expertise, a fresh perspective and deep commitment to serving the profession.

Christopher Cooney, FCIA(1999)

Christopher CooneyChristopher brings over 30 years of actuarial experience across property and casualty, life and group benefits, with a strong focus on analytics, pricing and regulatory reform. As vice-president of data and analytics at TD Insurance, he has championed the responsible use of AI, machine learning and advanced modelling in competitive markets.

A committed CIA volunteer, Christopher helped develop the Institute’s policy on big data and risk classification and has served on multiple industry advisory committees. He is passionate about modernizing actuarial practice, advancing fairness and innovation, and helping the CIA lead on emerging risks like climate change and economic disruption.

Karen Lockridge, FCIA(1994)

Karen LockridgeKaren is a long-time advocate for sustainability and climate action, with a decade of experience focused on sustainable finance and systemic risk. Her leadership on the Actuarial Standards Board’s climate-change group and background in consulting give her a strong foundation in emerging risk guidance.

She is passionate about enhancing the CIA’s role in climate risk, advancing education and research, and encouraging member engagement through volunteerism. Karen envisions a CIA that leads with purpose, equips actuaries to tackle global challenges and empowers members at all stages of their careers.

Ana P. Nunes, FCIA(1994)

Ana NunesAna brings over 35 years of experience in pensions, investments and governance, currently leading APN Advisory Canada and serving on multiple boards, including LAPP and MoveUP/ICBC. With strong credentials in enterprise risk management and corporate governance, Ana is a dedicated CIA volunteer and chairs the Institute’s ERM Practice Committee.

She is committed to advancing actuarial leadership in risk management, supporting members amid regulatory and economic change, and promoting diversity in the profession. Ana sees the CIA at a turning point and is eager to help shape its future direction through sound strategy and innovation.

Diana Pisanu, FCIA(2008)

Diana PisanuDiana is a seasoned actuary with over two decades of experience in valuation, policy development and IFRS 17 transitions, and has been recognized with the CIA’s Award of Distinction for her volunteer service. She has chaired key CIA subcommittees, including the Annuitant Mortality Subcommittee, and has a strong passion for advancing actuarial research and education.

Diana closely follows the evolution of actuarial exams and serves on student committees at her organizations, advocating for robust qualification systems. She is committed to professional excellence and eager to contribute her expertise to the CIA’s strategic goals.
