Volunteers of the CIA and new Fellows were celebrated at a ceremony today, taking place alongside National Volunteer Week. The CIA Legacy Awards are held annually to commemorate the extraordinary work of the CIA’s volunteers, and they have expanded significantly since the first event in 2001.
The benefits of volunteering and embracing your empathy
The work done to further the actuarial profession is also work that benefits the public. That’s why it is crucial to recognize National Volunteer Week and the accomplishments of CIA volunteers.

Building on our legacy: Dane Grand-Maison
We’re profiling recipients of the CIA Legacy Awards, our annual appreciation program that recognizes the valuable contributions of volunteers who move the CIA forward. Contributing to a public-focused profession
“The challenge for any professional organization is managing public interest and the professional interests of its members,” says Michel Simard, CIA Executive Director. Through its programs and activities, the Institute upholds its guiding principle of putting public interest above the needs of the profession and its members. Whether refining our Qualification Standard, revising the Standards of Practice or ensuring that the Rules of Professional Conduct are respected, the Institute continually works in the public interest.
Canada’s actuarial profession: rooted in the strength of our volunteers
CIA volunteers founded and continue to grow the Institute by dedicating their time and effort to produce research, establish standards, offer training and events, and perform outreach to partners and stakeholders. To recognize our volunteers’ remarkable service and dedication, we are proud to re-imagine the CIA Legacy Awards – an annual recognition program that kicked off with a virtual celebration on June 11 for our 2021 award winners.
Celebrating National Volunteer Week with strength in numbers
At the Institute, recognizing the contributions of our volunteers is a year-round commitment. National Volunteer Week, however, is an opportunity to collectively applaud the achievements of members who have given back to the advancement of the profession and longevity of the Institute.
