We are pleased to announce the election of five new members to the CIA Board, effective July 1, 2026.
President-Elect
Josephine Marks, FCIA(1985)

Josephine has been acclaimed as the CIA’s next President-Elect. Based in Ontario with Eckler Ltd., she brings experience spanning life insurance and investments, along with a long history of volunteer leadership across the profession.
Her volunteer history began with early work with the Younger Actuaries Committee and exam grading to more recent contributions in standard setting and governance review. Her priorities include strengthening the CIA’s national and international visibility and supporting members as the profession evolves. She also champions the continued growth of the CIA education system, strengthening traditional actuarial roles and actively expanding the profession’s footprint in non-traditional work in Canada and internationally.
Looking ahead, she points to emerging challenges such as climate change, the ethical use of artificial intelligence and predictive modelling, and the financial impacts of longevity and advances in health care.
Directors
Elected for a three-year term, each new Director brings valuable expertise, a fresh perspective and deep commitment to serving the profession.
Margaret Brandl, FCIA(2002)

Margaret is based in Ontario and brings some 30 years of actuarial experience in life insurance and risk management, in both Canada and the United States. A recipient of the CIA’s Award of Honour, she has described volunteer service as a defining part of her career.
Her priorities include strengthening engagement across the profession as qualification pathways evolve, addressing barriers to entry while maintaining high standards and supporting strategic expansion into emerging fields. She also emphasizes research and public outreach to help Canadians better understand the actuarial profession, the CIA’s role as a professional body and how it serves the public interest.
Pierre Laurin, FCIA(1989)

Pierre is a Certified Enterprise Risk Analyst. Now retired and based in Quebec, he brings more than 40 years of experience, with deep expertise in P&C insurance and capital management, along with board and leadership experience across corporate and consulting roles in Canada and internationally.
A recipient of the CIA’s Award of Distinction, he brings a perspective shaped by stepping back in recent years and continued public engagement, including service on an environmental protection committee. He brings a questioning approach focused on constructive oversight and supporting a profession that continues to evolve as new risks and expectations emerge.
Jason Malone, FCIA(2012)

Jason is a pension actuary with Aon in Quebec and a recipient of the CIA’s Award of Excellence. He brings more than a decade of volunteer leadership, including work on pension accounting guidance, representation on international accounting matters and service as an international ambassador for the CIA. He chaired the International Relations Council, served as an ex officio member of the Board and represented the profession as a speaker at the Quebec national assembly.
Jason is focused on strong governance and a forward looking and influential CIA as economic, demographic and regulatory conditions evolve. He also emphasizes professionalism, trust and the CIA’s contribution to sound public policy.
Justin Cicchini, FCIA(2025)

Justin is joining the CIA Board in the reserved role for an FCIA who obtained their Fellowship within the past seven years.
He is based in Quebec with Intact Financial Corporation. Justin brings an early‑career perspective grounded in P&C practice and cross‑functional collaboration, with a focus on strengthening the CIA’s value proposition and member engagement across career stages.
He has highlighted the CIA education system as a pivotal moment for the profession and a key first impression for new members, and emphasizes clear messaging about what the CIA offers members beyond credentials and CPD management, including learning and development, national networking, practice‑relevant research and a community that supports growth. He also emphasizes practical ways to capture and act on member feedback so the Institute remains modern, responsive and relevant.
Leading the profession in a changing landscape
With the incoming Board in place, the CIA is well positioned to continue supporting members and advancing the public interest through strong governance, clear professionalism and a forward‑looking approach to education and the evolving needs of the profession.
Thank you to all candidates and to every member who took part in the 2026 election and helped shape the Institute’s future.
