Over the past eight months, the Institute’s Head Office has undergone a major transformation. The CIA has grown rapidly over the past decade, with expanded programs, increased public engagement and a broader range of services to members. At the same time, the way we work has changed, with greater reliance on technology, hybrid collaboration and cross‑team coordination.
Our team members need an environment that not only meets current needs but also inspires creativity, fosters collaboration and supports the Institute’s increasingly dynamic operations. Our previous workspace could not meet these needs, so we launched a renovation to create a modernized, multi‑use space – one that is inviting, warm and vibrant, and reflects the professionalism and energy of the CIA community.

Growing team, growing needs
The change in our physical space mirrors the organization’s evolution.
When the CIA’s Head Office moved to its current location in 2011, we operated with 18 full‑time team members. The team was small but dedicated to supporting the Institute’s essential functions.
As of 2026, Head Office has more than doubled to 44 team members, reflecting the steady expansion of our activities, as the Institute has now taken on full accountability and responsibility for all aspects of its mandate as a professional body.
This growth put pressure on the original office layout. It lacked sufficient collaboration space and could not easily support hybrid or technology‑enabled work. The recent renovation ensures the CIA has a workspace that accommodates its current team and anticipates future growth and evolving work models.
Upgraded features of our new space
The redesigned office is a modern, flexible and multi‑use environment built to support collaboration, creativity and inspiration. It features a variety of spaces tailored for different types of work, including quiet focus, teamwork, volunteer group meetings and hybrid collaboration. These changes create a vibrant, welcoming space that reflects how a modern professional organization operates.
Some of our favourite features:
- A larger, fully equipped boardroom: The refreshed boardroom includes upgraded audio‑visual technology and expanded seating, enabling the CIA to confidently host CIA Board meetings and volunteer groups onsite.
- New collaboration spaces: Multiple rooms are equipped with audio-visual tools and are designed to support brainstorming, hybrid meetings and team work, fostering stronger connections across the organization.
- A brighter, more open floor plan: The improved layout brings in more natural light and creates a warm, inviting and modern environment. Underused areas have been eliminated in favour of functional, flexible workspaces that support solo and group activities.
- A revitalized common area: The refreshed shared space is vibrant and welcoming, conceived for informal conversations, team building and fostering a sense of community across departments.
- Modern finishes and modular furniture: New flooring, paint, ceiling tiles and window coverings elevate the look and feel of the space, while modular and ergonomic furnishings allow team members to quickly adapt spaces for different purposes. This flexibility ensures the office can evolve with organizational growth and work methods.
- Designed to inspire and adapt: Above all, the renovated office is now a modern, multi‑use space that encourages collaboration, sparks creativity, and provides the flexibility needed to meet the evolving needs of both team members and the CIA community. It serves as a future‑ready hub for the Institute’s important work.
Supporting our members-first focus
The improvements made to the space directly support Head Office’s ability to serve members.
Enhanced collaboration spaces allow team members to work together more efficiently, improving responsiveness and supporting clearer communication with volunteers and members. Technology‑enabled meeting rooms facilitate hybrid interactions and ensure high‑quality experiences for committees and working groups. A more cohesive and inspiring environment helps team members stay engaged, productive and connected – benefiting the entire membership and, ultimately, all Canadians.

A workplace that reflects our future
The renovated Head Office marks an exciting new chapter for the CIA: a warm, vibrant environment designed with intention and purpose.
This strategic investment strengthens the organization’s ability to adapt, grow and lead the Canadian actuarial profession with confidence, now and into the future.
