This first in a series of jointly sponsored webcasts by the American Academy of Actuaries (Academy) and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) will provide an overview of each organization’s role as the sole national professional body in their respective countries. The webcast will cover topics such as the importance of objectivity, independence, and service of the public. Learn the similarities and differences between the two organizations and how professional practice in the United States and Canada may differ. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the Academy and the CIA.

The webcast will look at the following:

  • What are the Academy and the CIA;
  • Role and purpose of each national professional organization;
  • Similarities and differences;
  • How each organization is independent and objective;
  • Professionalism: standard-setting and discipline;
  • Perspective and influence on public policy; and
  • Conclusion and questions.
