Johan Janse van Vuuren
Johan Janse van Vuuren is vice-president, ORSA and LICAT, at Sun Life Financial, responsible for the implementation of the new LICAT requirements as well as the development, implementation, and production of the own risk and solvency assessment.
Mr. van Vuuren started his career in a pensions consultancy in South Africa and later moved to London, England where he joined Prudential UK as a financial reporting actuary. After a number of years at Prudential, he moved to The Hartford in the UK where he was responsible for product development and pricing of new variable annuity products for the UK business group and played a key role in restructuring and de-risking the product offerings following the 2008 market crash.
In 2009, Mr. van Vuuren joined Sun Life in the UK and led the ALM, product management, and reinsurance areas, playing a key role in a number of change initiatives, including the implementation of Solvency II. He moved to Canada in 2013 where he had various roles, including ALM oversight, responsibility for the economic scenario generators for Sun Life, and management and oversight of model risk for the enterprise.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (UK) and also holds a bachelor degree in actuarial science from the Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
