Balz Grollimund
Since September 2016, Balz Grollimund has been head of the treaty underwriting team for Canada and English Caribbean business at Swiss Re, responsible for the property and casualty lines of business. Prior to his underwriting role, he was head of the earthquake team within Swiss Re’s catastrophe perils unit. In that role, he oversaw the underwriting tools the company uses to assess earthquake and tsunami risks for treaty and single risk businesses, supported the development of non-traditional risk transfer instruments, and provided expert advice in all aspects related to geological hazards.
Prior to joining Swiss Re in 2005, he oversaw consulting services for the Latin America region of GeoMechanics International, a US-based consultancy for the energy sector.
Mr. Grollimund holds a diploma in earth sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, as well as MSc and PhD degrees in geophysics from Stanford University.
