Andrew Cairns
Andrew Cairns is a professor at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and director of the Actuarial Research Centre (ARC) of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
He is principal investigator for the ARC-funded research programme “Modelling, Measurement and Management of Longevity and Morbidity Risk” with significant supporting funding from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
Mr. Cairns is a leading international researcher on modelling and management of longevity risk and is a co-inventor of the Cairns-Blake-Dowd (CBD) stochastic mortality model. More widely, his research interests cover long-term risk management for life insurance and pensions.
