Session 26 • Climate Change, Sustainability, and the Work of Actuaries

This session will discuss the role that the actuarial profession can play in forecasting financial contingencies associated with climate change and sustainability issues. Speakers will examine how actuaries can help manage these risks by comparing the costs and benefits of strategic policy options and providing fact-based information to decision-makers. Climate-related initiatives undertaken by the actuarial community will also be discussed, such as the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee’s research papers and the Actuaries Climate Index, a joint venture of four actuarial organizations.
