International Actuarial Association (IAA) Joint Colloquium

The 2016 CIA Annual Meeting (June 28–29) will be held in conjunction with the International Actuarial Association (IAA) Joint Colloquium (June 27–29), in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Founded in 1895, the IAA is the worldwide association representing local professional actuarial associations and their individual actuaries. The IAA encourages the development of a global profession, acknowledged as technically competent and professionally reliable, which will ensure that the public interest is served. The IAA is a unique international organization dedicated to research, education, and the development of the profession and of actuarial associations. In order to encourage actuarial research and development in particular areas of practice, the IAA has created specialized sections whose membership is open to various categories of members. This colloquium represents a joint collaboration of three IAA Sections: the International Association of Consulting Actuaries (IACA), the Pensions, Benefits, and Social Security Section (PBSS), and the IAA Health Section (IAAHS), as well as the International Pension and Employee Benefits Lawyers Association (IPEBLA).

The theme of the colloquium is “our complex and interlinked world”. The program will include plenary sessions with formal addresses by invited keynote speakers, topical presentations by subject-matter experts, and parallel sessions at which actuaries and lawyers from around the world will present submitted papers.
