Karl Delwaide

A partner with Fasken Martineau, Karl Delwaide is a founder of the firm’s National Practice Group on Privacy and Information Protection, which he headed for many years. With extensive experience and successes in complex litigation, he is widely recognized as one of the few Québec lawyers with broad and significant knowledge of the courts and tribunals in the privacy and information protection area. As such, he was commissioned by Jennifer Stoddart, Canada’s former Federal Privacy Commissioner, to co-author a book on 10 years of case law.

Mr. Delwaide represents private enterprises and public organizations in regard to all issues dealing with privacy, the protection of information and freedom of access to information. He also devotes a significant amount of his practice to administrative, regulatory, and disciplinary law, including successfully arguing judicial revisions and injunctions before the courts. His representations in this area range from acting for the agricultural trade (buyers/processors) to advising mining, pipeline, and other companies in provincial agricultural zoning matters. Mr. Delwaide also advises film and television producers and broadcasters in cases of libel, slander, defamation, and other issues.
