2017 CIA Annual Meeting

June 21–22, 2017
Québec City Convention Centre, Québec

Session 41 • Interactive Panel Discussion–Disclosure of Criminal Convictions

Imagine if, years ago, when you were only 19, you did something that you shouldn't have that led to a criminal conviction. You paid your dues, moved on, rebuilt your life, and now successfully practise as an actuary. The CIA now requires you to disclose that criminal conviction.

What was the thinking that led to the disclosure rules and what do they mean for our profession and members who may be impacted? Of course it will never happen to you. But what would happen if it did? Learn about the rationale behind the requirement to disclose, the process for disclosing, and provide your views on some hypothetical cases through live polling during the session. Compare your thoughts with how the members of the Committee on Professionalism viewed these sample cases. Learn about the process the committee uses to reviews real cases and what the experience to date has been.
