Group Benefits Exam

While there are no formal prerequisites for registration to the CIA Group Benefits Exam (GBE), please note that the material covered in the SOA Group and Health Track exams and educational activities, including the Group and Health Core – Canada Exam (GHCORC), are considered background knowledge for the CIA GBE and are expected to be thoroughly understood by candidates. Note that the exam is required for FCIA qualification and Practice Education Course (PEC) eligibility only if credit for the GHCORC was achieved prior to September 1, 2017. Candidates who successfully complete the GHCORC after September 1, 2017 are exempt from the CIA GBE requirement.

Note that conventional-route candidates who wish to attend the PEC in the Group Track based on experience will still have to successfully complete the GBE to qualify for FCIA if they achieved credit for the GHCORC prior to September 1, 2017. Please contact Leslie Lenton if you have any questions.

The February 2021 sitting of the CIA GBE will be the last. Candidates who have completed the GHCORC prior to September 1, 2017 and who do not successfully complete the exam in February 2021 will need to successfully complete the new SOA Group and Health Finance and Valuation Canada Exam in order to qualify for FCIA.

The CIA Group Benefits examination takes place on February 17, 2021,12:30 ET.
