Jacqueline Friedland

Jacqueline Friedland is the 58th President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, holding the position for the 2021–2022 term.

Jacque has been practicing in P&C insurance for more than 35 years. She joined OSFI in October 2019 as Sr. Director, P&C Insurance Group, Insurance Supervision Sector. For two years before joining OSFI, she offered consulting services to P&C insurers and industry organizations through J. Friedland Actuarial Consulting Inc. Prior to this, she served as the Chief Risk Officer, Chief Actuary, and Chief Compliance Officer for RSA Canada, with responsibilities for risk, reserving, analytics, economic capital, and actuarial systems.

In addition, Jacque is the principal author of Fundamentals of General Insurance Actuarial Analysis, released by the Society of Actuaries in 2013, and Estimating Unpaid Claims Using Basic Techniques, released by the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2009.

Jacque is a CIA Award of Excellence recipient in recognition of her extensive volunteer career with the Institute. She started volunteering in 2006 as Chair of the Task Force on Materiality. She has been very involved in many CIA activities and initiatives, namely education, standard-setting, international and public affairs, and professionalism. She has also served on the CIA Board.

Jacque holds a bachelor’s degree in business, management information systems, from the University of Georgia. She obtained Fellowship in the CIA in 1999.

Jacque is passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion and works in these areas for both the CIA and OSFI. During her term, she wants to ensure that we take the diversity of our membership into consideration as we plan events and as we think about succession planning of our committee and council chairs and other CIA leadership roles.
