Actuarial Guidance Council

Duties and purpose:

  1. To direct and manage the development of all practice-related guidance material other than standards of practice, in all areas of actuarial practice;
  2. To adopt all practice-related guidance material other than standards of practice, in all areas of actuarial practice;
  3. To provide interpretative opinions on all standards of practice and other practice-related guidance material, in all areas of practice;
  4. To monitor the work of other professional standard-setting bodies and provide comments on draft professional standards issued by those bodies, where appropriate; and
  5. To liaise with the Actuarial Standards Board and provide input and assistance where required in the development of standards of practice, including recommendations regarding volunteer resources suitable for membership on the Actuarial Standards Board’s groups designated to lead the development of standards.

The Actuarial Guidance Council must also, in accordance with its duties described above, establish and follow procedures for the adoption of practice-related guidance material other than standards of practice, the terms of which must not be in conflict with the CIA Bylaws.
