Registration for the 2019 CIA Group Benefits Examination Now Open

The CIA Group Benefits examination (GBE) is a requirement for candidates in the SOA Group and Health track who achieved credit for the Group and Health Core – Canada exam (GHCORC) exam prior to September 1, 2017 and wish to attend the CIA Practice Education Course (PEC) in 2019. Note that successful completion of the GBE is required for FCIA qualification and PEC eligibility if credit for GHCORC was achieved prior to September 1, 2017. Candidates who successfully complete GHCORC after September 1, 2017 are exempt from the CIA Group Benefits exam requirement. Note that conventional-route candidates who wish to attend PEC in the Group Track based on experience will still have to take the GBE to qualify for FCIA if they achieved credit for GHCORC prior to September 1, 2017. Please contact Leslie Lenton if you have any questions.

The examination will take place on February 13, 2019. Candidates may opt to write the exam in a location of their choosing, as long as it is proctored by a Fellow of the CIA.

While there are no formal prerequisites for registration to the CIA GBE, the material covered in the SOA Group and Health Track exams and educational activities, including exam GHCORC, are considered background knowledge to the CIA GBE and are expected to be thoroughly understood by candidates.

The exam will be a three-hour open-book examination, similar to the former PEC Group Benefits exam; however, the syllabus and course of reading will focus on the material not covered by SOA examinations that is required by the CIA Syllabus.

See the CIA website for more information.
