Member Consultation: Creation of the Actuarial Profession Oversight Council (APOC)

In June 2018, the Board completed phase 1 of the review of the CIA’s governance model and practices (log in required) and is now consulting members and stakeholders on proposed changes related to phase 2, which concerns the work of the CIA in respect of its duties as a self-regulator.

Proposed governance and structural changes in phase 2 include the following:

  • Creation of an Actuarial Profession Oversight Council (APOC);
  • Transferring the current Actuarial Standards Board (ASB) with minimal changes to report to APOC;
  • Creation of the Professional Qualification Board to report to APOC; and
  • Transferring the Committee on Professional Conduct, renamed to the Professional Conduct Board, and the Tribunal Panel to report to APOC.
Please take the time to review and consider the proposed governance changes and provide comments using the online form (log in required) no later than November 2, 2018. You may also submit comments by e-mail to Lynn Blackburn, director, professional practice and governance.
