CIA/SOA Joint Webcast – How Would a National Risk Officer Build a National ERM Program?

Thursday, August 30, 2018
Noon–1:30 p.m. ET
Offered in English

Jill Knudsen, actuarial programming manager, Moody’s Analytics
Sim Segal, president, SimErgy Consulting

While there is not yet a national risk officer role per se, many countries around the world apply enterprise risk management (ERM) not only at the government agency level but also at the national level.

The Joint Risk Management Section (JRMS) sponsored a research project to explore how a national risk officer could design and implement an effective national ERM program. This webcast highlights key elements from this research study, including the traditional ERM methods currently in use at the national level and their existing challenges, as well as emerging trends in this area. The speakers will explore how a value‐based ERM approach would be applied at the national level, and address the following questions:

  • What are the critical national objectives?
  • How do you measure successful achievement for each objective?
  • How do you quantify risk in this context?
  • What key risks do we face at a national level?
  • What activities would a national risk officer engage in to successfully implement a national ERM program?

At the conclusion of the webcast, attendees will be able to

  • Understand the unique challenges of applying ERM at the country level;
  • Learn the key steps to successfully build a national ERM program; and
  • Appreciate the need for a national chief risk officer.
