CIA Pension Seminar

Toronto: Metro Toronto Convention Centre, 255 Front St. W.

November 5, 2015

Luncheon Speaker: Joannie Rochette

At the 2010 Winter Olympics figure skater Joannie Rochette inspired a nation when she won the bronze medal, just days after tragically losing her mother. She was named Canada’s flag bearer for the closing ceremonies, and a co-recipient of the Vancouver 2010 Terry Fox Award for her display of determination and humility in the face of adversity. Speaking with warmth and candour about following your dreams and overcoming challenges, she continues to inspire Canadians from coast to coast.

A skater since she was 22 months old, Joannie became Canadian champion in 2005 and finished fifth in the Turin Olympics the following year. In 2010 she was named the Canadian Press female athlete of the year. She has collaborated with organizations like World Vision and Right to Play, as well as contributing her time to the iheartmom campaign, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Montreal Heart Institute, the Bruny Surin Foundation, and We Day. She has her own fitness DVD, and also voiced Rochelle in Les avions, the French version of Disney’s Planes.

Joannie joined the Canadian Stars On Ice tour in 2005, and still participates in annual tours in Québec and around the world. A graduate of Collège André-Grasset’s Natural Sciences program, she intends to pursue her university studies once her figure skating career is over.
